Brescia University Men's Basketball 2017-18 Season Preview

The 2016-17 Men's Basketball season saw the Bearcats finish the season winning 10 of their last 13 games.  With the return of 11 letter winners along with this year's recruiting class the Bearcats look forward to a very competitive schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

The Bearcats return a lot of offensive firepower starting with Junior Dillon Geralds.  Geralds was a RSC 1st team All-Conference player that averaged 19.5ppg and 8.6 rpg which was in the top 40 ranked nationally in those statistics last season.  The Bearcats also return 6th man Tavon Johnson that will be looked at to contribute more as a projected starter.  The senior from Bardstown, KY averaged 13.6ppg while shooting 84.2% from the foul line.

The Bearcats also return everyone from last season's front court lineup led by Juniors Ed Carter and Zach McDaniel as well as Sophomore Kayode Daboiku.  Daboiku averaged 9.7 ppg during his freshman campaign along with earning player of the week honors in the RSC in January.  Carter ranked in the top 30 in the nation with 44 Blocks and provides help defensively, where McDaniel provides some scoring punch shooting 40.6% from the 3-point arc.

The back court returns some familiar faces in starting Point Guard Mason Roland.  Once Roland was inserted into the starting line-up the Bearcats played their most consistent basketball. Joining Roland will be Senior Jordan Cooper-Livers.  Cooper-Livers brings a lot of playing experience and gives Coach Skortz some additional scoring, but he has been bitten with the injury bug during his career and hopes are he will be ready to go once the season begins.  Junior Darrion Morrow along with Kody Hughes and Senior Adam Wilkinson also brings the Bearcats a wealth of experience off the bench and even spot starts.

Sophomores Brandon Stacker and Terrell Davis will move to the big guard position this year and provided depth to the program.  Other returners that figure to provide depth are Red-Shirt Freshaman Tyler Harris, Red-Shirt Freshman Dominique Gaines and Tyren Garrett

Head Coach Brian Skortz feels really good about this year's recruiting class.  This class figures to help the Bearcat improve in a couple of areas, in particular defensively, as well as improving the ability to shooting the basketball from three.

The Bearcats open the season on the road against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on November 5th.
