The Lady Bearcat's Tennis Team traveled to NCAA Division II School Oakland City University on Tuesday. The Bearcats came away with an exciting 5-4 victory behind Freshman Brookelyn Hattabaugh's # 3 singles victory over Charity Prinzing (OCU) in a 12-10 Tie-Break. Trailing early after losing the first set 6-1 Brookelyn came out in the second set with a different strategy. "After the first set I came out and talked to Brook about changing our strategy and boy did she execute and perform very well.", stated Interim Head Women's Tennis Coach Brian Skortz. Brook jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set and won the set 7-5. In the Tie-Breaker Brookelyn fell down 5-8 but rallied to win the tie-breaker 12-10. "I am very proud of her on how she competed today. Brook did a great job today and I believe this will help her as the team goes into conference tournament action on Friday.", commented Coach Skortz.
Also doing their part for the Bearcats was Seniors Dakota Durrett, Tarsila Duck, and Emily Adkins. All three Bearcats won their singles matches in convincing factor. Durrett and Duck teamed up to also win their #1 Doubles match 8-2 vs Prinzing, and Main(OCU). The Bearcats improve their team record to 4-5 on the year and with play IU-East in the KIAC Women's Tennis Conference Championships which start on Friday at Centre Court in Owensboro (KY) at 11am. The Bearcats are the #4 seed in the KIAC Tournament. "I thought the three seniors played well today. Tarsila Duck had one of her better matches today playing at the #2 Singles. Dakota has been really solid for us and played well and Emily controlled her match right from the start. I am excited to see what we can do at Conference.", Stated Coach Skortz
The Bearcats will resume play on Friday at Home in the KIAC Conference Championship. The Bearcats play against IU-East at 11am with the winner moving on to play at 3pm later in the day.
