The Brescia Bearcats traveled to Richmond, Indiana on Saturday to face off against KIAC Colonial Division leader IU-East. The Bearcats got off to another slow start and found themselves trailing by double-figures before the first media timeout. The homestanding Red Wolves held Brescia at bay, extending the lead to 11, 38-27, at the half. The Bearcats mounted a rally in the second half, cutting the lead down to four on multiple occasions. However, trailing 79-70 with just over a minute remaining, Brescia was forced to foul. IUE converted their chances down the stretch from the line and Brescia could not answer, resulting in the final margin of 83-70 and the Red Wolves' first victory over the Bearcats since the 2012-13 season.
On the afternoon, the Red Wolves and Bearcats shot the exact same percentage from the field. Both teams went 29-69 from the floor (42%), but the game was won on the glass (IUS outrebounded Brescia 47-33) and at the free throw line (IUE shot 18-25 while Brescia was only 6-7). Parker Salinas led the way for the Red Wolves with a career-best 25 points. Jermain Langley posted a double-double for the Bearcats, scoring 13 points while pulling down 11 boards and dishing out 6 assists. Austin Morris (18 points), Dillon Geralds (15 points), and Trey Howard (11 points) all found double-digits in the scoring column.
Brescia returns to action this Saturday at 3:00pm, as they host Rio Grande in the regular season finale for both teams. Saturday will be Senior Day as well, so please plan to come out to the Campus Center and celebrate our seniors one more time!
