The Brescia baseball team hosted St. Catherine's on Tuesday night at Schadler Field. With winds gusting out up to 30 mph, it was all that both pitchers could do to keep the ball in the park. The Patriots started the game with back to back to back home runs setting the tone. The Bearcats would battle back in the bottom of the first to put two on the board, and then take the lead in the bottom of the 3rd recording 2 more runs. St. Catherine's did not let the Bearcats lead for long. They scored 5 runs in the top of the 5th off eventually losing pitcher Phoenix Cox (SO/Indianapolis, IN). Phoenix gave up 3 hits and 4 earned runs, with 3 base on balls and no strike outs. Starting pitcher for the Bearcats was T. Solomon. Solomon only lasted 3 innings give up 5 hits and 3 earned runs. He recorded 2 strike outs and walked 2.
The Bearcats again battled back in the bottom of the 5th to add 3 runs and to only be down by 1 run. The top of the 6th saw the Patriots add 1 run to take a two run lead. Then St. Catherine's added 4 more in the top of the 7th to break the game wide open. The Bearcats would only answer with one run in the bottom of the 7th and then try to put together a rally in the bottom of the 9th, but they could only add 1. The final score was St. Catherine's 13 and the Bearcats 9.
"I was really proud of our effort tonight, after St. Catherine's started the game with 3 home runs we could of easily folded. But we didn't, we fought hard the entire game. I believe we were 1 play away from winning the game." Coach Dickson
The Bearcats are back in action this Friday as they host Oakland City University. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
