The 2016 KIAC conference softball tournament is hosted by Brescia University and will be played at Panther Creek Park. The tournament will start on Friday April 29th at 10:00 a.m. CST with the number 1 seed facing the 8th seed on field one, and the 4th and 5th seed facing off on field two. The KIAC softball tournament is a double elimination format. Games will be played all day on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Bearcats still have two conference games against Asbury University this Tuesday. Results of this match up will determine the Bearcats seeding for the tournament. The Bearcats will either be the 8th or 7th seed going into the tournament depending on the results of their games on Tuesday. "We are very positive going into the weekend. Being able to sleep in our own beds will help out a lot. We are limping into the tournament but believe that if we can get our bats going we can compete with anyone" (Coach Smith)
The Red Storm of Rio Grande will enter the tournament as the one seed. Rio Grande has a KIAC record of 17-1 with their only loss to I.U. Southeast back in early March. The Red storm are the favorites to win this year. The Red Storm have been led on the mound by Jenna Jones and Kelsey Conkey. Jenna has conference ERA of only .13 and is 9-0 in conference play. Kelsey also has a very impressive ERA at 1.4 and is 8-1 in KIAC play.
The number two seed I.U. Southeast have posted a KIAC record of 15-3 with their only losses to Rio Grande and the #3 seed Point Park. Carlow will come into the tournament as the #4 seed.
It should be a great weekend to spend at the ball park.
