The Bearcats started off the KIAC conference tournament by giving up two runs in the top of the first but would respond with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. After the Grenadiers replace two pitcher the game seemed to settle down some until the top of the 5th when I.U. Southeast was able to score two runs and take the lead 4-2. Again the Bearcats would answer in the bottom half of the inning but they would only be able to score one run and close the gap to 4-3. Phoenix Cox would finish out the 6th inning before Coach Dickson decided to go to his bullpen calling in Kolton Keown. Phoenix gave up 6 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned runs, walked 3 with 5 strike outs.
The Grenadiers would open the game up in the top of the 8th by adding three runs to stretch out the lead 7-3. The Bearcats would have a three up three down inning in the bottom of the 8th. Bottom of the 9th and the score is still 7-3. Wilkerson singles to short, then Jones flied out to left. Next up was Zach Johnson who singled to center to reach base advancing Wilkerson to second. Tanner Tow records the second out of the inning with a strike out. With two outs Kenny Rideout comes to the plate and hits a ground ball and is forced out at first.
"I was very proud of how we competed for most of the game. Unfortunately against a team like that you have to play an almost perfect game to win and we didn't do that. We made a couple of mistakes that they took advantage of and it showed in the end." (Coach Dickson)
The Bearcats will play tomorrow in the loser bracket at 12:00 CST against the loser of the West Virginia Tech/Asbury game. You can get live stats and a live stream of the game at KIAC tournament central.
