Things started out great for the Bearcats against Kentucky Christian on a great night for soccer. Ten seconds into the game, the Bearcats had the ball inside the 6 yard box. Several other times, the Bearcats had the ball inside the goal box, but simply could not score. But then a direct kick foul was called against Kentucky Christian and at the 18:40 mark, Emma Payne (SO/Louisville, KY) lofted a nice shot into the top left corner to spot the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. The Bearcats continued to put pressure on their opponents, but still could not penetrate all the way to the goal. Play went back and forth between the two squads until the 36th minute mark where a Bearcat foul in the box gave Kentucky Christian the PK goal they needed to shift the momentum.
In the second half, nothing really got going offensively for either squad until the 67th minute where Kentcuky Christian's Kailee Lemmings played a shot to the top corner and Jordan Blemker (FR/Oakland City, IN) came up with a brilliant save just over the bar to keep the Bearcats in the game. Blemker had a stellar game with 9 saves in the goal. Regulation ended with the score tied 1-1.
In overtime Brescia never got any momentum back and at the 5:10 mark of the first overtime, Abigail Smith got an uncontested shot straight in front of the goal from about 25 yards out and put one in just past the outstretched hands of Blemker to seal the deal for the visiting Knights.
