The Brescia Men's Basketball Team opened it 2016-17 season at #2 NAIA DI ranked Georgetown College on Wednesday night. The Bearcats got off to a slow start trailing by 15 points at halftime. The Bearcats (0-1) put together a quick run of points in the middle of the second half to trail by five. The No. 2 Tigers (4-0) responded with a 16-5 run, icing the game. Brescia never let up, but Georgetown held on for an 85-73 victory. Georgetown College Head Coach Chris Briggs stated after the game "I give Brescia a ton of credit for the way they played tonight. They handled the press very well and were very physical. They kept us off balance and out of rhythm for much of the game. They out worked us for many parts of the game and every time we made a big run, they fought back and kept coming at us. We needed a game like that and it will make us better.". Quan Poindexter had all eight of his second half points in that spurt. The junior finished with 16. Trent Gilbert had the hot hand in the first half with 16 of his game-high 23 points."Going in we knew we had to know where Gilbert was on the floor at all times. We lost him defensively and he made us pay. In the second half we played much smarter basketball and defensively got them out of rhythm. Junior Norman Ellis gave us a needed spark off the bench and defensively allowed us to match up better with their key offensive threats." stated Head Coach Brian Skortz. "We left some opportutities on the floor tonight we will continue to learn and grow as a program, but we played with great effort.", added Skortz. Trey Howard led the Bearcats with 21 points. Dillion Geralds was a pair of boards shy of a double-double, 16 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Cooper-Livers and Tavon Johnson each scored 10 points. The Bearcats wil play at Morthland College on Saturday November 5 at 1pm (CST).
