The Brescia University Women's basketball team traveled to Rio Grande for a cross division match up on Friday January 6th. The Bearcats are 1-1 all-time against the Red Storm.
The Lady Bearcats fell behind at the end of the first quarter 20-27. The Red Storm would expend the lead to 11 before Brescia would make a run and pull within four (33-37). Rio Grande would answer with a run of their own to widening the lead by 13 at the end of the half. ((36-49)
The Bearcats would start the second half with a three pointer by Shelby Samsil and then two point shot by Alicia Salazar to pull within 8 or the Red Storm. But once again the Red Storm Of Rio Grande would answer with a run and straight the lead to 17 with just a little over three minutes to go in the third. At the end of the third the Red Storm would have a comfortable lead. (51- 65)
In the fourth the Lady Bearcats were unable to gain much ground on the Red Storm. Rio Grande's lead was at 15 with a little over three minutes left in the game. The Lady Bearcats would make a late charge to close the gap to 10 but it was too little too late. The Red Storm win the game 78-68.
The Lady Bearcats fall to 2-14 on the season and 0-5 in RSC play. The Lady Bearcats had four players in double digit scoring: Catherine Dunn lead the way with 14, Kelsey Kirkpatrick and Becca Somers added 13 and Shelbi Samsil scored 12. The Lady Bearcats were out rebounded 43-23. They were 10-22 from the three point line and 10-12 from the charity strip.
The Lady Bearcats will be back in action tomorrow Saturday January 7th against West Virginia Tech. Tip off will be at 12:00 p.m. CST.
