Brescia Women's Basketball traveled to West Virginia Tech on Saturday January 7th to face the Golden Bears. The Bearcats are 1-2 all-time verse the Golden Bears.
At the 5:04 mark in the first quarter the Lady Bearcats would take the lead (10-8) off a three-point shot by Shelbi Samsil with the assist from Catherine Dunn. Then the Golden Bears put together a 6-0 run to regain the lead (10-14) and would close out the quarter with a 9 to 3 run and lead after the first quarter of action 13-17.
The Lady Bearcats came out in the second quarter on fire and would put together a 9-2 run and take the lead 22-19. The Golden Bears would tie the game back up by 25-25 with just over half of the quarter to play. The Bearcats would take a small lead until WVT would make a three-point shot and take a one point advantage. (29-30) The Golden bears would put together back to back to back three point shots and finish the half on a 11-0 run and secure the lead at half (38-29).
The Golden Bears would extend their lead at the beginning of the third quarter to 16 (29-45). This would force first year Head Coach Mike Grey to take a timeout. After the timeout, the Lady Bearcats would out score the Golden Bears 20-11 and pull within 8 by the end of the third quarter. (48-56)
The Lady Bearcats shooting would go cold to start the fourth quarter and this allowed the Golden Bears to put together a 16-3 run to start the fourth and increase their lead to 21 with just over four minutes to play. (51-72) Kelsey Kirkpatrick would finally get a three pointer to go and record her 15 point of the game but it just wasn't enough for the Bearcats to mount any kind of charge.
The Bearcats would lose their 5th RSC game to fall to 2-15 on the season.
Brescia would only shoot 44% from the floor and 50% from the free throw line. The Lady Bearcats were lead in scoring by Kelsey Kirkpatrick with 15 points.
The Lady Bearcats are back in action on Friday Night as they host the Eagles of Cincinnati Christian, tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m. CST
