The Brescia University Men's Basketball team hosted the Patriots of Morthland College on January 17 at the Mavericks Training facility. The Bearcats come into the game coming off a hot weekend when they were able to sweep both RSC matches.
Brescia would begin the game without missing a beat and jump out to a 12-2 lead. But the Patriots would answer with a 10-2 run of their own to close the gap to within 2. After the first media timeout, the Bearcats would refocus and extend the lead back to 7 by midway through the first half. The Bearcats were able to stretch their lead to 15 with just under two minutes to play in the half. Morthland would have a little push to end the first half and pull within eight before the break. Dillion Geralds would lead the Bearcats in the first half scoring 18 of his game high 29 points.
The second half would begin with the Bearcats extending their lead back out to 16 before the Patriots would put together a run to close it back to within six. This would be as close as the Patriots could get in the game. Brescia with a great defensive effort would hold the Patriots to just over 70 points and would get their third win in the last five days. (88-72)
"Coming into tonight's game we knew we had to defend the Burmester brothers. Dylan has really had some good games against us in the past and I thought Trey Howard did a good job forcing Dylan into some quick shots and challenged shots. Holding him to 4 of 19 shooting and 11 points is a great job by the team. We allowed too many second opportunities with Tyler Burmester getting 5 offensive board and 26 points. We have a couple of days to prepare for an athletic Point Park team and we will need to do a better job on the boards." stated Head Coach Brian Skortz. "Dillon(Geralds) played well offensively he knows how to score in so many different ways, I also thought Trey Howard had some great looks and shot it well. Kayode had a nice second half gets a double double in points and rebounds. I was really happy to see Darion Morrow and Mason Roland in stretches play very well offensively Darion hit some big shots in the first half and Mason had a team high in assist with 6." added Coach Skortz
The Bearcats will host Point Park this Friday. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CST
