The Brescia University Men's Basketball team faced off against the Pioneers of Point Park on Friday night. The Bearcats came into tonight's game looking to improve on their 2-6 conference record.
The Bearcats would jump out early to maintain their lead all the way up to half time, going into the locker room with a 19-point lead. "If you were to tell me that we would be up 19 points without Dillon Geralds (sick with the Flu DNP) and Trey Howard having an off half (0-5 FG 0 points ... book it". "Our team showed a lot of character and others stepped up." (Coach Skortz)
The second half began with the Pioneers making a run and pulling within 12 but the Bearcats would not give in and would hold off Point Park and secure their third victory in RSC play. "We played very hard tonight and it was great to see a lot of people contributed. Kay had a huge night for a freshman, career numbers in rebounds and points. Tavon stepped up and played very well offensively and got to the foul line. Ed Carter had one of his best games of the year. I also thought Brandon Stacker gave us some important minutes in the first half as well. Very proud of them right now but we must come back tomorrow afternoon and do the same." (Coach Skortz)
The Bearcats were led in scoring by Tavon Johnson with 28, and at 5' 8" he was able to secure 5 rebounds. Also, helping the Bearcats in scoring was Kayode Daboiku, who added 22. He also led the team in rebounding with 16. The Bearcats shoot close to 40% from the field and was 88% from the free throw line. The Bearcats also out rebounded the Pioneers 50-43.
The Bearcats are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they face Carlow University. Carlow will entry the game with a 2-6 RSC record. Tipoff is set for 3::00 p.m. CST
