Game two of the weekend conference game for Brescia's Men's Basketball would be just what the Bearcats needed to become relevant in the RSC West division. Brescia would play host to Carlow University on an unusually warm January Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats come into the game after a win against the Pioneers of Point Park and were looking for another sweep of conference opponents.
Brescia would come out with all the momentum in the first half jumping out to a quick 10-point lead. (22-12) But the Celtics of Carlow would not just lay down and let Brescia have their fourth RSC win. Carlow would battle back and take the half time lead into the locker room. (43-45) Kayode Daboiku would score 25 in the half to spark the Bearcats. "What a weekend for our freshman Kayode Daboiku he was very active and establish himself inside well in the first half. I see him growing as a player that we have a tremendous amount of confidence in." (Coach Skortz)
With the first shot by the Bearcats in the second half they were able to tie the game and never give the lead up. Brescia would start the half with a 9-0 run and Carlow would fight an uphill battle to try and stay in the game. (54-45) Brescia was able to extend the lead out to 15 before the half way point of the second half. (66-50) The closet the Celtics were able to get was with a little over six minutes left in the game they would close the gap to 6. (77-71) Once again, the Bearcats responded with a mini run of their own and would stretch the lead back out to 13 with just 21 seconds left in the game. Brescia would finish off the Celtics of Carlow to improve their RSC record to 4--6 and move into a tie for third place in the west division. "Trey Howard did a nice job in the second half making some plays both offensively and defensively. He shot the ball in rhythm tonight. Tavon took over the last couple of minutes nailing some keys penetrating jumpers. Very proud on how we responded." (Coach Skortz)
Brescia was lead in scoring by Kayode Daboiku with 27, but Brescia would have four more players in double digits: Howard (19), Johnson (14), Geralds (14) and Carter (13). The Bearcats would out rebound Carlow 23-21, with Carter and Geralds each pulling down 6 boards. Carter would lead the team in assists with 3.
The Bearcats will travel to Richmond, IN. on Tuesday to face the number 11 ranked team in the country, I.U. East. The Red Wolves are 9-1 in RSC play with their only lose going to West Virginia Tech. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. EST
