The Marian University Knights women's soccer team started their season in strong fashion as they pummeled Brescia by a score of 14-0. Marian was held just out of the pre-season top-25 nationally and this did not bode well for the Lady Bearcats, as they were first hand witnesses to the power the Knights actually have.
The Lady Bearcats simply could not catch a break. The Lady Bearcats faced pressure from the opening kickoff, but were able to keep the Knights out of the goal until the nine-minute mark when Maria Farmer was able to get around the back of the defense and net one past Jerrica Kidd (SR/Stanford, KY) for the first goal of the game. Then things seemed to get worse as the Knights tallied seven more first half goals.
When asked after the game, Coach David Ralph said, "It is hard to find good from a game like this --- but I went into the game with a goal for our team to come out at least even on winning balls in the air --- and we actually ended up one ahead of Marian for the day. Obviously, we have much work that is needed --- but we are building and trying to take one step every game. National powers like Marian can quickly find weaknesses and exploit them. But we learned a great deal and will learn more when we break down the film."
The next game for the Lady Bearcats is Tuesday night at home against Freed-Hardeman, kick-off is at 8:00pm CST.
