The Lady Bearcats came out flat to begin the first match of the 2017 Panther Invite on Friday morning, losing the first set 25-12. They would bounce back and get into a rhythm in the second set, but the Lady Oaks of Oakland City University would hold off the charge and take the second set 25-19. With their backs against the wall, Brescia women's volleyball team responded well and took the third set 25-17. "I really like the way we responded this morning, we were not ready to play, but once we woke up we started to be more focused." (Coach Forbes)
The Lady Bearcats came out in the fourth set and were able to bring the match back to even with a 25-21 win. The fifth set the Lady Oaks came out strong and jumped out to a 7-3 lead. After the side switch, Brescia would put together a run to pull within two. After a time out, the Lady Oaks were able to get the side out and put away the Lady Bearcats 15-12.
"We have now lost three of our four matches in five sets. I really enjoy playing Oakland City because it's always a great match. I like how we are playing and how much energy our bench gives us every match." (Coach Forbes)
Sophomore outside hitter Natalie Jones with 15 kills and 20 digs led the Lady Bearcats; she also added 3 service aces. Also, helping the Bearcats were Rhiannon Ungerer (13), Katherine Porter (6) Kassidie Hayes (6) and Tonya Tivitt (5)
Next up for the Lady Bearcats will be Bluefield College at 4:00 p.m.
