The Brescia University women's volleyball team opened conference play on Saturday, September 16th with a match against the Eagles of Cincinnati Christian University. C.C.U. would open up the match with a 3-0 run to begin the set, but the Lady Bearcats would get into a groove and turn things around putting together a run of their own 14-5. The Lady Bearcats would not give the lead up the rest of the set. Brescia takes the first set 25-19.
The second set would begin the Lady Bearcats taking charge and leading midway through the set16-7. The Lady Eagles would not have an answer to the Lady Bearcats charge and Brescia would take the second set 25-14.
In the third set, Brescia would once again jump out to a big lead of 12-5. Brescia would hold off any charge that C.C.U. would try to mount and secure the match with a 25-19 win in the third set.
The Lady Bearcats were lead offensively by Kassidie Hayes (11 kills, 2 errors, with a hitting percentage of .391) and Katherine Porter (10 Kills, 2 errors with a hitting percentage of .471). Also, helpping out on the offensive side was Tivitt (7), Ungerer (6). Brescia had a team hitting percentage of .348. "I am so excited to see everyone step up today. We were a very balanced team offensively. This is so important to have so many options. (Coach Forbes) Dishing out the sets were Buckner with 22 assists and Satterfield with 9.
Defensively the Bearcats were led by Rhiannon Unger who recorded 13 digs. Helping keep the ball from the floor also was Buckner (9), Logsdon (8), and Jones (8).
The Bearcats are 7-7 on the season and 1-0 in the River States Conference. The Lady Bearcats are back in action this Tuesday in the Moore Center against Midway College. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
