OWENSBORO KY - The Brescia University Men's soccer team hosted Martin Methodist in their last non-conference match of the season. Martin Methodist was coming into the match having only lost 1 match and ranked 24th in the nation.
Brescia came out and scored another early goal, with Marin Murillo playing a ball through from Karim Ndoye who muscled past the Martin Methodist defender and gave the Bearcats the early lead just 3 minutes into the match. The match would hold steady until an unfortunate handball in the Bearcat box gave way to a Methodist penalty. Goalkeeper Jacob Stanley would save the initial penalty, but the Martin Methodist Forward would finish his own rebound to even the match at 1-1. The second goal for Methodist would be a set piece just outside the box and the third would come in the run of play just before half.
In the second half, Methodist would add a fourth quickly and the match would hold steady at 4-1 until the 79th minute when Jean Laurent would get brought down inside the box. Laurent would send the keeper the wrong way to cut the Methodist lead to 4-2. Methodist would see out the match adding two more late goals in the 86th and 88th minute to make the final score 6-2 in favor of Martin Methodist.
"Once again we started great. This was the sixth match this season we took the lead early on, but the third time we couldn't hold onto that lead. I was happy with 80 minutes of our play, but this is a 90-minute match we play. If we can sort out the small stuff, we can be a dangerous team" stated Head Coach Will Van Nostrand.
Brescia will play their first conference match of the season on Thursday the 28th, playing host to (5) Rio Grande. Kickoff is at 6pm CST at Kamuf Park.
