The 2017-18 Brescia Lady Bearcats are very optimistic at the challenge of increasing their wins with fewer losses. The team will feature a lot of new faces this upcoming season. Coach Mike Gray and his staff have had a very busy off season recruiting in order to add more depth, because the previous season was marked by a lot of injuries. The Lady Bearcats return six players from last year's team. Led by seniors Haley Cook (forward) and Kelsey Kirkpatrick (guard) - juniors, Catherine Dunn (guard), Aaliyah Rodgers (guard) and sophomores - Jayde Robinson (center) and Alicia Salazar (guard).
The Lady Bearcats are in the midst of an exciting youth movement as Coach Gray and his staff have assembled one of the largest recruiting classes in the history of the Brescia women's program. The class consists of five transfers and six freshman. They are Le'Onzerrae Grubbs (Shawnee Community College) Hopkinsville, KY, Princess Holloway (Texas College) Dallas, TX, Jaycie Luna (Olney Central) Olney, IL, Jessamyn Jimenez (College of Southern Nevada) Las Vegas, NV, Jada Williams (Victor Valley College) Las Vegas, NV and freshman Jada Hall and Kyra Tapp (Owensboro, Apollo), Angel Jeffries (Blackman HS) Murfreesboro, TN, Cassidy Moss (Crittenden HS) Marion, KY, Sitney David (Marcus HS) Flower Mound, TX and Ashli Sheldon (Milford HS) Milford, OH.
They are hoping the JUCO transfers will make an immediate impact, by providing leadership with an old school work ethic that will help set the tone early in practices. The freshman class will be counted on to contribute early and often because of the up-tempo style, which Brescia plays. It will require everyone to be in shape, so that their ability will be maximized in the rotations. If everyone continues to work hard and establishes that can do attitude, this will be a memorable year for the Lady Bearcats.
