Brescia University Women's volleyball traveled to Ohio Christian on Saturday October 7th for another River States Quad match. The Lady Bearcats would square off against the Redwolves of I.U. East in the first match of the day.
The Lady Bearcats would come out in the first set focused and ready to face the number 1 seed team from the East Division. With great serving and tenacious defense the Lady Bearcats would take the first set 25-18. The second set began with the Redwolves jumping out to a quick 7 point lead, but Brescia would fight back to pull it even at 18-18. "I am so proud of how we fought in the 2nd set, I've been talking about fighting and show how much passion they have. They diffidently showed me that today." (Coach Forbes)
The Lady Bearcats would put together a 7-3 run to close out the second set and take a 2-0 lead in the match. The third set would start with the same fire and passion as the first two sets. Brescia would jump out to an 11-6 lead and never look back. Brescia wins set three 25-17 and secured the victory.
The Lady Bearcats were led by freshman libero Kristin Logsdon who recorded 26 digs, helping her keep the ball in play was Ungerer (15), Jones (10), and Reels (8). The Lady Bearcats were very consistent from the serving line missing only two serves with four aces. "I have talk all season about being able to make our serves and hit the zones I am looking for. We did that so well in this match. Along with our ability to keep the ball off the floor this is one of the main reasons why we were successful today," (Coach Forbes)
Leading the team in scoring was Jones with 10 kills. Helping put the ball away was Tivitt (9), Ungerer (5), Porter (5) and Hayes (3). Placing the ball for their hitters to score was Satterfield who recorded 16 assists and Buckner who added 10.
In the second match of the day the Lady Bearcats would face the host team, Ohio Christian. Brescia would take the first two sets in convincing manner 25-15 & 25-18. In the third set the Trailblazers from Ohio Christian would win the battle and stay alive 25-21.
The Lady Bearcats would dig deep and secure the third set 25-17. The Lady Bearcats were again lead defensively by Kristin Logsdon who added 30 more digs to her season total. Kristin now has 400 digs on the season. Also, making things easy for her setters was Ungerer who recorded 28 digs. Ungerer is now only 61 digs and 16 kills away from joining a very elite club. (1000 kills and 1500 digs)
Jones (15) and Tivitt (11) led the team in kills and help Brescia secure its 6th RSC victory. "I can't say this enough, I am so proud and honored to coach this group of young ladies. I just hope we can stay healthy and focused the rest of the season. I can't wait to see what they do next." (Coach Forbes)
The Lady Bearcats are now 6-2 in RSC play and 14-10 overall. Next up for the Bearcats will be the Eagles of Asbury.
