PITTSBURGH, PA – The Brescia University Men's Soccer team traveled up to Pittsburgh to take on conference opponents Carlow and Point Park over the weekend.
On Friday, Brescia played Carlow at Highmark Stadium. Both sides would play even for the first 36 minutes until Ricardo Majano would flick a ball into the path of Fabian Torres whose low shot would beat the Carlow keeper to put the bearcats on the board. Brescia would take the 1-0 lead into the half.
Carlow would tie the match up at 1-1 early in the start of the second half and the match would stay tied until the 60th minute, when Jean Laurent would play a diagonal ball across the field to Marin Murillo whose shot would give the lead back to the Bearcats. Then, just eight minutes later, Brescia would clear out a defensive corner and Mateo Ruales would get onto the ball and carry its down the field almost 80 yards, fire a shot on goal, in which the Carlow Goalkeeper would spill out to Ricardo Majano for an easy tap in to extend the Bearcat lead to 3-1. Then, with 10 minutes to play, Edgar Estrada took a thrown in and found Marin Murillo at the corner of the box, Murillo would turn and find the top corner to give Brescia the 4-1 lead. The match would finish at 4-1 in favor of Brescia.
On Sunday, Brescia would play Point Park University for their fourth River States Conference match of the year. Point Park would find a way to take the early 1-0 lead and would go on to add a second and third in the first half to extend their lead to 3-0. Brescia would play better in the second half but the Point Park lead would remain the same and the match would finish 3-0 in favor of Point Park.
Brescia would leave the weekend 1-1, 4-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play. They play host to conference foe Asbury University on Thursday at Kamuf Park.
