The women's soccer team traveled to St Louis to face Harris-Stowe State University on August 29 to open their 2012 season. Only 10 minutes in HSSU took the lead when Shayna Kremer slipped her shot from 16 yards between Brescia keeper Tori Montgomery (Licking Valley) and the near post. Then at 36 minutes Brescia's Kimberly Hyde (Christian County) broke through the HSSU defense to slot a shot home under the diving arms of HSSU's keeper, Casey Scherr, and the half ended at 1-1.
Again HSSU jumped out early when Briana Garza drove a shot off the hands of Montgomery's replacement Haylie Doom's (Caldwell County) hands and into the goal. Brescia would come back at 62 minutes when Brescia's Eva Burelos (McGavock) slipped the ball between two HSSU defenders and Hyde chipped from ten yards for the tying goal.
The winner was scored when Kelsey Burr (Sullivan South) spotted Hyde free and sent her the ball over the HSSU defense and into the penalty box. Hyde was able to take the ball out of the air, evade a defender, and rip the winner at 79 minutes.
The women will next travel to Oakland City on September 1.
