The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has announced that the Brescia men's tennis program is one of 17 teams in the country named as an All-Academic team.
Members of the team were Isaac Duncan, Jacob Blevins, Julien Chenneberg, Moises Goncalves, Spencer hall, Sean McGehee and Logan Stull. " We are very proud of these student-athletes," said Head Coach Jack Etchison. "We narrowly missed last year being named to the team and this year's 3.38 GPA is very impressive."
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NAIA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2011 and spring 2012).
In addition to the team award Jacob Blevins, Isaac Duncan, Spencer Hall all received the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award.
On the women's side, Shannon Gaston and Alejandra Matiz also received the scholar-athlete award. "The women just missed making the team for the second year in a row with an overall GPA of 3.10 and Shannon and Alejandra are very deserving of the honor," said Coach Etchison.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
