The first road contest of the season didn't start off so well for the Brescia Bearcats. The homestanding Bulldogs of Union College jumped out of the tune of a 13-2 lead at the 15:23 mark before the Bearcats could shake off the rust from the 4+ hour bus ride and get into the game. After a timeout, Brescia answered with a 19-7 run to take the lead at 21-20. Both teams exchanged baskets for the remainder of the half, with Union taking a slim 29-28 advantage into halftime. In the second half, the play started out much like the first half ended, with the two teams trading baskets for the first five minutes to tie the score at 38 all before the Bearcats went on a 13-2 run over the next four minutes to take an 11-point lead. From that point on, it was all Brescia, with Union never able to get closer than two possessions for the remainder of the evening. Six of the seven Bearcats who logged minutes in the game tallied double-figure scoring totals, led by freshman Kyle Nixon who had a career-high 19 points and 5 assists. Junior Myron Christian recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Brett Jackson (10), Jermain Langley (13), Troy Halcomb (10), and Hunter Rowe (17) all scored in double figures. The Bearcats outrebounded their opponent for the second consecutive game, and showed their unselfishness by logging 18 assists as a team.
Brescia returns to action at home against NAIA D-1 foe Campbellsville University next Monday night, November 5, at 7:00pm at the Campus Center.
