2013 brings a new season, and third year Head Coach Aaron Biddle feels the Bearcats have their strongest team since the 2009 conference championship team. Coach Biddle says, "I believe our preseason rank to be a fair assessment of where we should be this season because i feel we can legitimately compete with the top four teams in our conference and be there at the end to compete for a conference title."
After losing only four seniors from last year's 20-34 squad the Bearcats have added 15 newcomers for the 2013 season. The Bearcats roster will be comprised of four seniors, seven juniors, eight sophomores and 14 freshmen.
The Bearcats pitching staff will be led by Senior Zach McLean and Sophomore Christian McHatton who both logged over 50 innings in 2012. Another senior who will be relied on heavily is Tyler Edmunds. Juniors Jackson Miles and Andrew Shoulders led the 2012 squad in appearances and will again be relied on to play a large roll on this year's staff. Sophomore's Jonathan Brown, Ryan Lutz, Cody Morris, and Dalton Mellott will mix with Freshmen Aaron King, Caleb McIntire, Nick Woltermann, Logan Cecil and Brown Lewis to round out the staff.
The Bearcats offense will be led by KIAC 1st Team All-Conference standouts, Junior First Baseman Alex Hegge and Sophomore Third Baseman Christian McHatton. Hegge led the 2012 squad in Batting Average (.375), Hits (69), Runs (45), and RBI's (42), while McHatton led the club in doubles (13), Slugging Percentage (.510) and On-Base % (.447) while earning 2012 KIAC Freshman of the Year Honors. Also returning from last year's squad is 2nd Team All-Conference Senior Catcher/Outfielder Matt Cissell. Other returners include Catchers Corey Moore (Senior), Tim Adams (Junior), Hank Stewart (Junior), Infielders Jordan Rhodes (Junior) and Sophomore Outfielders Logan Rascoe, Cody Morris and Zach Capps.
Several newcomers are expected to add punch to the Bearcats line-up in 2013. Transfers include Infielders, Nate Crocker (Junior), Eduardo Bermudez-Rosso (freshman), Dalton Mellott (sophomore), and Vin Barbato (Junior). Freshmen include Infielders Caleb McIntire, Nick Woltermann, Brian Daria, Blane Thomas, Logan Cecil, along with Outfielders Brady Reese and David Rice.
The Bearcats will open the season on February 15th at the University of the Cumberlands, while also facing Martin Methodist University and Victory University on the road before the Home Opener on February 27th against Lindenwood University-Belleville. The 2013 KIAC schedule will begin on March 16th at Alice Lloyd and feature road series with arch rival IU-Southeast and Pre-Season #6 Point Park University. The Bearcats will play host to conference opponents Berea College and Asbury University. Other opponents on the 2013 Schedule include Covenant College, Dakota State University, St. Catharine College, Huntington University, Lindsey Wilson College, Bethel University (TN) and UC-Clermont.
