Brescia hosted the Berea College Mountaineers in KIAC action Saturday in Owensboro.
The Bearcats and Mountaineers battled in front of a near capacity crowd in a back and forth affair. After falling behind 6-0 early the Bearcats climbed back in it taking a 9-7 lead with 15:22 remaining. The game would stay close as Brescia took a 24-23 lead with 3:51 left in the first half. They would extend the lead to three points leading 31-28 at halftime.
The second half was saw Brescia extend to its largest lead at 40-32 with 14:45 remaining. Berea closed the gap methodically bringing the score to 51-49 with 6:46 left in the second half. The Mountaineers took a brief lead before Myron Christian put up a strong basket to tie the game at 59-59 with 1:43 remaining. Berea had one final shot as Aaron Ponder put up a desperation three point shot at the buzzer but it was no good and the game advanced to overtime.
In Overtime the raucous crowd at the Brescia gym came alive and the "6th" man was in full effect. The extended period was a back and forth affair with Brescia going up then Berea answereing to tie the game at 63-63. A Jermain Langley free throw gave the Bearcats a 64-63 lead with 2:27 left in overtime. Berea the hit two straight baskets taking a 64-67 lead before Hunter Rowe hit a huge three point basket to tie the game at 67-67 with 37.6 seconds remaining. Brescia got the ball back and came out of a timeout with 6.8 seconds remaining handing Langly the rock as he slit the defense and drove straight down the lane and put up a beautiful finger roll giving the Bearcats the lead with .8 seconds remaining. Berea's Ponder tries a 3/4 court shot at the buzzer but the game had ended, Brescia 69 Berea 67.
Brescia was lead by Christian's 15 points and 9 rebounds. Austin Morris had 12 points and Langley and Rowe had 11 and 10 points respectively. Berea was led by Seth Beckham's 24 points.
Brescia travels to Richmond, Indiana on Tuesday to take on the IU East Redwolves in KIAC action before returning home next Saturday to host Asbury College.
