On Friday night, the Bearcats snapped a nine game losing streak with a win in game one of their four game set with Asbury, 4-1, before falling in game two 7-6 in nine innings.
In game one, it was a pitcher's duel for the most of the night. Asbury, was able to get on the board first with an RBI single by Landon Skaggs. That's where the score would stay until the bottom of the fifth when the Bearcats finally got on the board on an RBI single by Nick Woltermann. The Bearcats then broke things open in the bottom of the sixth, when Alex Hegge delivered an RBI single to break the tie and Hank Stewart followed him up with a two run single to make the score 4-1. In the top of the seventh, Zach McLean came on in relief of Jackson Miles, who pitched 6 innings of four hit baseball, allowing two runs and striking out five. For McLean this would be his 23rd appearance of the season tying a single season school record that had stood since 2003, and upon recording the last out, set a new single season school record for saves with eight, which had been previously set in 2001.
In game two, the Bearcats got on the board first when Nate Crocker scored on an error in the bottom of the first. Asbury was able to answer in the third on a sacrifice fly by Jared Hahn. The Bearcats pushed back ahead in the bottom half of the third on a two run double by Hank Stewart and an RBI single by Christian McHatton to make the score 4-1. Asbury added a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Casey Messner, but Brescia plated two more in the bottom half of the fifth on an RBI single by Christian McHatton and an RBI single by Cody Morris. Asbury got a run back in the sixth on an RBI single by Jordan Cox and then rallied for three to tie the game in the top of the seventh, with the game tying blow coming on a two run single by Cox. That's where the score would stay until the top of the ninth, when Asbury pushed a run across on a fielder's choice by Cox to give Asbury the 7-6 win.
On Saturday, the Bearcats celebrated their senior day in grand fashion, with wins of 5-2 and 6-3.
In game 1, Asbury struck first with an RBI single by Logan Crum, but the Bearcats answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Hank Stewart and an RBI single by Christian McHatton. In the bottom of the fourth, Jordan Rhodes delivered what would prove to be the game winner with an RBI single and in the bottom of the fifth the Bearcats put it out of reach when Cody Morris and Tim Adams drove in runs to make the score 5-1. Asbury would get one back in the top of the sixth, but never got any closer as Zach McLean went the distance in the 5-2.
In game 2, it was all Bearcats from the outset. Nate Crocker, Alex Hegge, Hank Stewart, Christian McHatton and Cody Morris all delivered hits in the four run first, as the Bearcats cruised to the 6-3 win. Jordan Rhodes and Corey Moore would each deliver RBI singles in the second and third innings respectively, as McHatton went the distance on the mound to earn his fifth win of the year, while allowing eight hits and striking out one.
