The Brescia men's cross country team traveled to Evansville, IN to compete in the Stegemoller Classic hosted by the University of Southern Indiana. In the men's 6,000m race the team took 4th place. The USI Screaming Eagles took 1st in the meet. The Bearcats edged Rend Lake College by 5 points, but handled in-town rival, Kentucky Wesleyan by a full 29 points.
The men were led by Micheal Dowell (So.) who covered the distance in 20:54. Fellow Sophomore (and former high school teammate of Dowell) Drew Atkins was 2nd for the team in 21:13. About the connection, head coach, Alan Schulze, said this, "It's a lot of fun to see two guys that have run together so much before they start their college career. Now those two are working together to achieve the goals that they set a long time ago."
The third scorer for the Bearcats was Jared Daugherty who was followed closely by Trey Drury who ran 21:40. "Jared had a solid performance and that's what we expect of him. His consistency is what got him into this position. However, the race of the day has to go to Trey. He was aggressive from the start and never let up. I'm really proud of the turn around he's made this season.", said Coach Schulze.
The Bearcats have next week off before heading North to Notre Dame for the National Catholic Championships on the 20th.
