Head Baseball Coach Aaron Biddle has announced a number of changes to this year's coaching staff. The biggest change is losing Head Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator Addison Rouse. Rouse has been named the Head Baseball Coach at Eastern Nazarene College an NCAA Division III school located in Boston, MA. "This is a great opportunity for Addy, but we will be very sad to see him go," said Biddle. "Addy's work with the outfielders and our baserunners were crucial last year. Not to mention the job he did recruiting. Addy's hand prints will be on this team for years to come, because of the work he has done helping recruit this team."
Hitting Coach Shawn Aubin will be tasked with replacing Coach Rouse as the Head Assistant/Recruiting Coordinator, while continuing his duties working with hitters, infielders and organizing the team's strength program. "Shawn has worked his tail off for me the last two years and is one of the most loyal people I know," said Coach Biddle. "I'm completely confident he'll pick up right where Addy left off."
Also, returning to the staff this year is Darren Lynam. Coach Lynam helps with hitters and infielders, as well as, recruiting. Darren is also a recommending scout with the Cincinnati Reds and brings a wealth of knowledge to the baseball program.
Coach Biddle has also announced three new additions to this year's staff. Although all three are in their first years coaching at Brescia, they are all former players. The biggest addition is new Pitching Coach Thomas Nelson. Nelson played two seasons with the Bearcats in '09 and '10 and was an integral part of the 2009 KIAC Championship squad. In two years with the Bearcats, Nelson tied the school's career record for saves. Nelson spent the 2012 season as an Assistant Coach at Culver Stockton College before spending the 2013 season as the Pitching Coach for the Las Vegas Trainrobbers of the Pecos League, an Independent Professional Baseball League.
Also, joining the staff are Matt Cissell and Zach McLean both of which graduated this past spring. Cissell is the only player in Brescia history to appear in a game in five seasons, appearing in two games during the 2009 KIAC Championship season before a shoulder injury ended his season. Coach Cissell's main priority will be working with the Outfielders, but he will also assist with the Catchers and the Hitters.
McLean played the last two season with the Bearcats, while earning 1st Team All-Conference honors as a Relief Pitcher. During the 2013 season McLean set single season records for appearances in a season with 28 and saves in a season with 8. McLean will assist Coach Nelson with the pitching staff.
"This will be a very talented staff. We all aspire to win a conference title and will work tirelessly to get there," said Biddle. "Nelson, Cissell and myself were all apart of the only KIAC title in school history and we want nothing less than to have the feeling again."
