The Bearcats cross country teams ran in the 2nd largest cross country meet in the United States on Saturday. The meet was home to over 4000 runners over a span of 10 races. Both the men and women raced in the Silver-Division.
The men's race saw Tristan Durbin (Fr.) finish as the teams top runner for the fourth time in as many meets with a time of 27:20. Closely behind was Junior teammate, Drew Atkins with a personal best time of 27:38; a time that moves him to 6th All-Time in Brescia history. Chase McCauley (Fr.) and Trey Drury (Jr.) also set personal best times of 28:29 and 29:21 respectfully. The team finished 29th our of 42 teams, defeating most other NAIA schools in the race.
Head Coach, Alan Schulze had the following remarks about the men's race, "I'm really happy for the men's team as they went into the race confident and didn't back down from any competition. We ended up beating a lot of teams that have gotten us in the past. I'm especially happy for Drew, Chase, and Trey who all had huge races and PR's. It's nice to see their hard work pay off."
For the women's team, Sophomore, Courtney Nass was the first Bearcat across the line in a personal best time of 20:11, which moves her to 3rd All-Time in Brescia history. The Senior quartet of Embra Hawkins, Olivia Warren, Samantha Walker, and Cassie King all followed with season best times of their own.
"This is the type of race we've been waiting for with the ladies.", said Coach Schulze. "We have to be confident that we will continue to get faster and that it is a team effort to do so. Right now, we're improving and will continue to do so throughout the remainder of the season."
The team is back in action this weekend as they host the Fast Cats Classic on Saturday at 9am.
