The men's and women's cross country teams co-hosted the annual Fast Cats Classic on Saturday. The meet was host to well over 1,000 runners and spectators. Individuals and families came from all around to see the meet that involved collegiate, high school, and middle school races.
The first race of the day was the women's 5,000m that saw the Lady Bearcats narrowly missing a victory by placing 2nd to Campbellsville by a mere two points. Leading the way for the harriers was Sophomore, Courtney Naas who clocked a time of 20:20; good for 5th place overall. She was shortly followed by three, Senior teammates: Olivia Warren, Embra Hawkins, and Samantha Walker; who were places 6 through 8. Cassie King rounded out the scoring by placing 14th.
"It was a great day for the ladies who are really starting to run well. They haven't packed up this well all year and it was nice to see them do that at the home meet.", said Coach Schulze.
In the men's race, Owensboro native and Freshman, Tristan Durbin returned to a course he called home during high school to be the top finisher for the Bearcats, placing 4th. He finished in a time of 26:55, his first time breaking the 27minute barrier. Junior, Drew Atkins finished 5 spots behind with a time of 27:47, while Denis Koske (Fr.) closely followed in 28:03.
Head Coach Alan Schulze had the following remarks regarding the men's race: "It was a pretty good showing for the men who tied for 3rd, but lost the tie breaker. However, we were only 2 points from 2nd place. Up front the guys ran really well."
The teams will return the course when they race in the DII Midwest Preview hosted by the University of Southern Indiana on 10/25.
