Brittany Mason, a marking back from Christian County, committed on Monday to continue her soccer career at Brescia.
Coach Dave Donahue commented on Mason during the signing ceremony, "Coach (Clint) Willis (Christian County) was really right when he said Brittany was a tremendously hard working, tenacious defender. I got to watch her play three different times and she was going as hard after 79 minutes as she was at the opening kickoff."
Willis hesitated when asked about Mason's goal scoring total, but she was quick to help him out with "One!" Donahue followed up laughing and stating that he didn't sign Mason for her scoring; he signed her for her terrific attitude, her unselfish play, and her ability to shut down her opponents.
Although it seems obvious that Donahue is building from the back by recruiting quick, tenacious defenders first, he was quick to point out that "There may be some surprises in the fall. Everybody needs to learn defense first. It makes forwards better because they gain a better understanding of how defenders think. And sometimes defenders blossom into scorers. Brittany is the kind of player who can contribute anywhere on the field."
