After falling to the host University of Pikeville 101-67 in the opening game of the BB&T classic on Friday night, the Brescia men's basketball team rallied on Saturday from 12 points down to defeat Bluefield College 78-71 in overtime to bring home a weekend split.
Friday night's game saw Pikeville overwhelm the young Bearcats at times, with swarming pressure generating too many turnovers for Brescia to overcome. Pikeville held the lead throughout the game and placed six players in double figures, led by Kenny Manigault with 24 points and 8 rebounds. The Bearcats did outrebound the Bears, and placed three players in double digits themselves, with Austin Morris (16), Kyle Nixon (11), and Trey Howard (10) all reaching the mark for Brescia.
A quick turnaround found the Bearcats trailing by as many as 12 points in the second half on Saturday afternoon against Bluefield College, but a disciplined and determined attack helped Brescia catch the Rams and eventually pass them in overtime. After a sluggish start that saw BU shoot only 32% in the first half, the offense found its rhythm in the 2nd half and overtime as the Bearcats blistered the nets at a 62% clip. Austin Morris led the team with a monster effort of 25 points and 10 rebounds, with Jordan Cooper-Livers and Kyle Nixon delivering 19 and 15 points, respectively.
