The Brescia Men's Basketball team traveled to Boyce College in Louisville, Kentucky on Monday night in a rematch of the Bearcats' only home game to this point of the season. Playing their fourth game in five days, the Bearcats brought home their 5th consecutive victory as they defeated the Bulldogs 92-64.
For the first time all season, Brescia led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 9-1 lead before leading by 15, 44-29 at the halftime break. Brescia shot 17-31 (55%) from the floor and held Boyce to 9-30 (30%). In the second half, the Bearcats extended the lead to as much as 32, blistering the nets at a 63% clip while limiting the Bulldogs to 35%. For the game, Brescia outrebounded Boyce 37-29 and had 25 assists to only 11 turnovers. The Bearcats were led on the night by Austin Morris with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Kyle Nixon dropped in 20 points of his own, including four three-pointers. By the end of the night, 11 Bearcats found their way into the scoring column.
Coach Gibson had this to say about the win: "Boyce is a team that always plays hard, and they shot the ball very well at home against us last year. We knew we would have to bring a great effort to win tonight, and I believe that we did that on both ends. They were a little banged up with a couple of key contributors out, but we knew they would have a great crowd and would have great energy. I am proud of the way the team competed and grew during this stretch of four games in five days. To come out of it 3-0 (Thursday's Murray State game was an exhibition for the Bearcats) is a great testament to the mental toughness we are beginning to develop."
After a few days off, Brescia returns to action on Saturday, November 29th as they hit the road to take on the Patriots of Morthland College.
