Drew Atkins (Jr.) closes out his outsanding Junoir-year campaign with a 7th place overall and the University of Louisville Twilight meet on Friday night. Drew won his section of the 800m run to set a new school record of 1:58.12. The victory was even sweeter that he got to go back to his hometown to win.
The Louisville Twilight meet is a "last-chance" meet for some of the best runners in the Midwest. Atkins won his race against competitors from Indiana University, Morehead, and Spalding.The win also gave him the highest finishing position in school history at this prestigious meet.
"You've got to be happy when a guy like Drew finally get his goal.", said Coach Schulze. "This is a mark [under 2:00] that has eluded him for nearly 3 years. We knew he was ready, we just needed a race where he could actually run that time."
Atkins closes out a season where he has set new personal records in the 800m, 1,500m, mile, and 5,000m - all the events he competed in this track season.
