The Bearcat golfers began their 2015-2016 season on September 4 & 5 in Columbia, KY at the Blue Raider Fall Kickoff hosted by Lindsey Wilson College. As expected for the first tournament of the campaign, it was full of ups and downs. The men got off to a rough start on Day 1, shooting a 309 for the round. The seniors led the way for the Bearcats with Alex Knight shooting a 2-over 73 and Will McKenzie shooting a 3-over 74.
"The guys got off to a shaky start for the first round, but they bounced back in round two and showed how they can really play." said Coach Ballou.
Round 2 indeed proved to be much better for the Bearcats, shooting one of the best rounds as a team that Coach Ballou has seen since he has been here. "That may be the best 18 hole team score Brescia Golf has seen in a while. Alex and Will stepped up big for us and led the way shooting under par," stated Coach Ballou. Knight shot 3-under 68, McKenzie shot 1-under 70, Freshman Trevor Brown shot 72, Sophomore Nolan White shot 74 and Freshman Kolton Myatt shot 77 in round 2 for Brescia. That gave the team an even par round of 284 and the second lowest score of the day behind nationally-ranked Dalton State, and beat 21st-ranked Union (KY) and 19th-ranked Lindsey Wilson for the second round.
The two round total of 593 put the men in 10th place out of 15 schools. Alex Knight finished in a tie for eighth place for the tournament.
The Men's Golf Team will be back in action this week on September 10 & 11 in a dual match with Oakland City.
