[Baseball] Summer league baseball

Many of the Brescia Bearcats have headed out to summer leagues looking to improve heading into the upcoming fall. The Bearcats currently have seven players playing in summer leagues all over the country and in Canada. The Bearcats have also seen three of their four coaches take rolls on summer baseball teams, including Head Coach Aaron Biddle.

Biddle is spending his second consecutive season as the Head Coach for the Owensboro Oilers of the Ohio Valley League. Biddle considers this an opportunity to try new ideas and hopefully learn some things from the players at other schools.

"This is a great opportunity for me to learn some new things and try new ideas. With a roster full of guys at other schools, you get to hear a lot about what they do at their schools. What their programs are like, what drills they do or like or don't like. What their strength and conditioning programs are like. So many people do things differently and there's a lot to learn for everyone. Myself included," says Coach Biddle.

The 2013 Season came to a close for the Bearcats on Friday night April 26, at the KIAC Tournament. The Bearcats finished the season with a (23-34) record, which was three wins better than the previous season and ten wins better than Head Coach Aaron Biddle's first team in 2011. In just two years the Bearcats have improved their winning percentage under Biddle by 139 points.

After losing the Opening Round game at the KIAC Tournament the Bearcats were forced into defense mode. With every game having the potential to be the season's last, the Bearcats would have to fight back thru the Loser's Bracket. On Day Two the opponent would be Berea in a win or go home contest.

The #3 seed Brescia baseball team fell to #6 seed Alice Lloyd 7-4 in the 1st round of the KIAC tournament in New Albany, IN on Wednesday. Brescia advances to the elimination bracket and waits to face the winner of Point Park & Berea on Thursday at 3pm.

On Friday night, the Bearcats snapped a nine game losing streak with a win in game one of their four game set with Asbury, 4-1, before falling in game two 7-6 in nine innings.

The Bearcats fell on Tuesday night at the University of Southern Indiana 9-2. The Screaming Eagles scored all the runs they would need in the four-run second inning. USI junior Bryce Shoulders started the scoring with his first home run of the season. USI followed the blast with three more tallies on a RBI-double by Brad Wannemuehler and a two-run single by Reece Rounder to make the score 4-0.

[Baseball] Bearcats drop four crucial KIAC games to Pioneers

The Bearcats dropped four games over the weekend at Point Park University.

On Saturday, the Bearcats fell 3-2 and 5-2.

In game one, Point Park struck first with a two run double by Don McDuffee. The Bearcats got one back in the top of the fourth when Jordan Rhodes scored on a wild pitch. Point Park quickly responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Rob Novia. The Bearcats again got to within one on an RBI groundout by Cody Morris in the top of the sixth, but that would be as close as they got.

In game two, the Bearcats jumped out to an early lead thanks in part to an error and an RBI groundout by Cody Morris. Point Park pulled even in the third on an RBI double by Ossie Alfonzo and a squeeze bunt by Chaz Russo. In the bottom of the fifth, Don McDuffee doubled home the go ahead run to make the score 3-2 and added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 5-2 win.
