Baseball Picks Up Two Conference Wins
Brescia University won its weekend series at Ohio Christian and picked up it's first River States Conference wins of the 2022 baseball season.
The Bearcats won the rubber game of the series Saturday as Tommy Clark pitched seven strong innings, and Jacob Upshaw homered twice in Brescia's 3-0 win.
Clark (2-1) allowed four hits and struck out nine while walking none. Tres Corrigan pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three to get the
save. Brescia scored in the second inning as Hunter Canada doubled home Mark Liberato. Upshaw added solo homers in the fourth and sixth innings and leads the team with seven round-trippers while batting .341.
Canada's double was part of a two-hit afternoon for the Bearcat 1st baseman.
On Friday, the Bearcats split a doubleheader, winning the first game 6-3. R.J. McNeely homered and drove in two runs to back the pitching of Tyler
Milby (2-1), who went six-and-a-third innings and allowed one earned run while striking out seven.
Preston Franey pitched the final 2.2 innings to pick up his third save.
McNeely's second homer of the year was a solo shot in the fourth that staked the Bearcats to a 2-0 lead.
McNeely added an RBI single in the sixth to score Cameron Dean. After Ohio Christian scored in the home half of the sixth inning, Brescia added two runs in the ninth. Liberato and Kendal Kortz had RBI singles. Kortz and McNeely had two hits as part of the eight-hit day for the Bearcats.
In the nightcap, Ohio Christian's Tanner Popp pitched a two-hit shutout to lead the Trailblazers to a 6-0 win.
Liberato and Upshaw had the two hits for Brescia – both singles. Popp struck out 10 and walked just two.
Brescia improved its record to 9-19-1, already passing last year's win total. The Bearcats moved into an eighth-place tie in the River States
Conference at 2-10. Brescia will host Lindsey Wilson Tuesday at Kamuf Park. The game was moved up a day from Wednesday due to the threat of inclement weather.
The Bearcats return to River States Conference play Friday and Saturday at West Virginia Tech.
