Baseball Defeats Lindsey Wilson College
Brescia University jumped out to a big lead early and held on for a 9-7 home victory over Lindsey Wilson College Tuesday.
The win by the Bearcats avenged an earlier season 17-7 loss in Columbia and snapped a three-game losing streak to the Blue Raiders. The Bearcats put crooked numbers on the scoreboard in each of the first three innings to grab an 8-0 lead.
Jacob Upshaw continued his hot hitting with an RBI single in the first inning followed by a Wyatt Griskey RBI double. Mark Liberato plated two runs in the second inning with a double that scored R.J. McNeely and Kevin Brooks for a 4-0 lead.
In the third inning, Griskey homered and Micah Brown followed with an RBI double. Brown would score on a bases-loaded walk, and Liberato added another run-scoring hit to give the Bearcats the 8-0 lead. Lindsey Wilson (20-13) began to peck away at the Bearcat lead with a run in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth.
A two-run sixth inning got Lindsey Wilson to within 8-6. In the seventh inning, Brescia picked up an insurance run when Kyle Taylor scored on a misplayed grounder.
Brescia rapped out 13 hits in the contest with five going for extra bases. Cameron Dean, Liberato, Griskey, and Brown each had doubles to go with Griskey's third homer of the year. Liberato also drove in three runs. Josh Martini (2-0) picked up the win in relief as six Bearcat pitchers went to the bump. Brescia also put together another errorless game in the field to back the pitching.
Brescia (10-19-1) looks to move up the River States Conference standings this weekend with a road trip to West Virginia Tech.
