In this battle of the programs, an emphatic dunk by Taeron Hogg would give the Bearcats an 11-8 lead. With just a one-point lead, Gonzalo Luque popped a transition three on the give from Cory Gardner to give the Bearcats a four-point advantage. The Grenadiers continued to shoot from beyond the arc where they struggled as BU dominated in the paint. A Gardner layup pushed the Bearcat lead to six with a minute and some change remaining in the first half. Down by nine with under four minutes to go, BU began their run for the lead. Camden Pfeister would check back in after a quiet night and drill a three pointer to cut the deficit. Gonzalo Luque rumbled down the lane on the transition steal for an and-1 layup to get them within three. After a missed three on the home side, Cory Gardner would follow up a missed layup for a tip-in lay to shave off another point to the Grenadier lead. IUS had plenty of chances at the other end to make a three after two missed attempts as a BU team rebound would give way for a timeout call. With seven seconds left, John Saenz used a deceiving ball fake to get around a defender as he finished near the rim for the possible game winning layup as BU took the lead 89-88. Another lopsided foul call on the Bearcats gave the Grenadier point guard a chance to win the game at the line to shoot two.
The Bearcats ran out of time to get a shot off as they dropped the road match, 90-89.
