OWENSBORO, Ky. – Men's Basketball finally got their first win at home this season as they defeated the 8-1 Bethel Wildcats, 93-81. The Bearcats moved to 2-5 on the season following the win.
Damian Garcia continues to be the catalyst for this Bearcat offense as 18 of his 32 points came in the first half. Both teams danced around the lead as the first half started on the slow side. A scoring drought on the floor was finally broken by a Wildcat layup but answered by Calvonta Shaw on the other end with the and-1 make to tie the ball game. With three minutes remaining until the half, the Bearcats found themselves at an 11-point deficit as the shots struggled to fall. Coach Karn called a short timeout to gather BU as they caught their breath. Three defensive stops led to a Bearcat 8-0 run to get them within three of the Wildcat lead.
Brescia outscored the Wildcats 53-38 in the second half as they shot 65% from the field and made 15 of their 21 free throw attempts. Garcia added 14 points while Mike Caswell had 10 of his 14 points in the second half. Gonzalo Luque played a big role with 20 points on 8-12 shooting from the field and 4-4 from beyond the arc in the win.
The Bearcats will head to Cleveland State this Saturday with a tipoff time of 2pm.
