Bearcats Compete at the NAIA Memphis Shootout
September 11, 2019
The Brescia men's golf team faced tour-like conditions under the intense heat of Memphis in the NAIA Memphis Shootout that was hosted by Sterling University.
The Bearcats were led by Ryan Howard (SO, Boonville, Ind.), who finished 31st in the 98 player field with a 232 (71,83,78).
Parker Brown (SO, Henderson, Ky.) closed with a score of 242 (82,75,85), while having difficulty adapting to the speed of tour engineered greens.
Daniel Steele (SR, Bardstown, Ky.) was close behind Brown, shooting a 245 (88,80,77) as he made steady improvements after a rough start.
Dakota Jones (SO, Center, Ky.) and Jake Jarvis (SR, White House, Tenn.), playing in their first large collegiate tournament, had a tough time making in-round adjustments and finished with scores of 257 (87,80,90) and 283 (93,93,97), respectively.
"We left a lot of shots on the course by making numerous mental errors in club selection and course management," said Head Coach Jason Cox. ''Playing 54 holes in two days is always a challenge for us, but with the intense heat and a difficult setup, we can still take away some positive outcomes from this for certain."
"Despite the performance I am proud of the grit, determination, and heart displayed these last two days. We have faced many challenges as a team recently, and we will get through them by displaying that same grit, determination, and heart over the rest of this season together," added Cox.
The men's golf team has a quick turnaround, as it will be competing in the 2019 Blue Raider Classic at Lindsey Wilson University on September 16 and 17 at 8:00 a.m.
