Men's Soccer Hangs with National Champions in Season Opener

DALTON, Ga. – The Brescia University Men's Soccer team dropped first game of Dalton Classic to the defending national champions, Dalton State, 3-0. The Bearcats start the season with an 0-1 record.
After a weather delay struck the south 30-seconds into the match, the Bearcats finally took the field two hours after the original kickoff time. The Roadrunners maintained possession for majority of the match as they come off a high-octane season. An early goal in the 10th minute gave Dalton State the lead over the Bearcats. The BU defensive line held strong for the entirety of the first half as they relinquished just the one goal in the first 45-minutes.
Though offensive opportunities were present for the Bearcats in the second half, the Roadrunners allowed very little room for a clean shot. Dalton State scored their second goal on a strike from 15-yards out, taking the two-goal advantage with 17-minutes to go. A third goal from the Roadrunners came in the 80th minute as a foul call set up Dalton State for the shot outside the box. The Bearcats struggled defensively in the second half, as the Roadrunners take the first game of the Dalton Classic.
BU will take the field again for the final day of the classic on Saturday at 10am against Georgia Gwinnett.
