OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University men's soccer team picked up their third loss of the season in their home opener against the Lions of Freed-Hardeman. A late goal sealed the loss by a one-goal deficit.
This matchup was a battle of the defenses as neither team were able to get more than 10 shots on frame. Santiago Garcia Peirat took the first of just four shots for the Bearcats at the top of the box that ended in a save for the Lions keeper. Ezekiel Isom had BU's second shot that missed just wide of the goal in the 18th minute. The half ended in a stalemate as both teams discussed their second period strategy.
A physical second half proved tough on the Bearcats as FHU came out more aggressively up the middle of the field. The first and only goal of the match came off the foot of a Lion attacker following a shot off the goal post in the 83rd minute. Despite getting a corner kick opportunity, the Bearcats couldn't convert in the box as they pick up the 1-0 loss.
The Bearcats will take the pitch again this coming Sunday, August 31st at home against UT Southern at 3:30pm CT.
