Bearcats Have Strong Showing in Indoor Opener
The men's and women's track teams began their indoor seasons this weekend at Knox College in Galesburg, IL. For many of the Brescia athletes this was their first collegiate track and field competition.
In the men's races, Drew Atkins (Jr.) won the 800m in a time of 2:02, over 3 seconds faster than the nearest competitor. Tristan Durbin (Fr.) placed 2nd in the mile run in his first collegiate track race. Notably, Freshman Brent Crawford set school records in both the 60m dash and the 60m hurdles where he placed 2nd. Ending the day for the men were Chase McCauley (Fr.) and Trey Drury (Jr.) in the 3,000m run where they placed 3rd and 4th respectfully.
The Lady Bearcats had fine performances of their own. Courtney Naas (So.) placed 4th in the mile run with a time of 5:49.0 and Mackenzie Weyer (Fr.) finished in the same position in the shot put as a result of her throw of 11.22m. Weyer's toss was also a school record. Freshman, Tori King also set 2 school records in the 60m dash and 60m hurdles.
The teams' next competition will be in St. Louis, MO at the STLTC Frostbite Half Marathon on Saturday, 1/24. At the race only one Bearcat, Senior, Olivia Warren, will race as she attempts to set a National Mark at the 13.1mile distance. The rest of the team will return to action when they go to the University of Indianapolis on January 30th and 31st.
