Bearcats Led by Atkins at UIndy
The men's and women's indoor track teams competed against many of the region's top programs at the University of Indianapolis this weekend. The meet was officially a 2-day competition, but the Bearcats, along with most others, only competed in the Saturday portion.
In the sprints, Brent Crawford (Fr.) set a new school record in the 60m dash with a time 7.96 sec, while Tori King (Fr.) also set a new record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 11.48 sec.
The distance events also held success for the teams as Junior, Andrew Atkins placed 4th overall in the men's 800m run with a personal best time of 2:00.4. The time is also good for 3rd All-Time in school history. Freshman, Tristan Durbin ran a time of 9:39.7 in the 3,000m run; his first time running the event. Courtney Naas (So.) competed in the mile run, finishing in a time 5:50.9.
Mackenzie Weyer, notably finished 12th in the shot put, competing against numerous NCAA National Qualifiers.
Head Coach, Alan Schulze had the following remarks on the meet: "Right now, we are looking for consistent performances from the team and we've succeeded in that area. Unlike most of the schools we compete against we do not have an indoor conference meet, so those schools are a little ahead of where we are right now." He also added, "Drew [Atkins] probably had the performance of the day. I'm happy for him that his hard work is paying off. We had people out there that are improving so we know we're on the right track"
The teams will be off this upcoming weekend, but will return to action on 2/14 at Depauw University.
