Track Teams Open Season at Cedarville
The men's and women's track and field teams traveled North to compete in the Cedarville Collegiate Open, hosted by Cedarville University. The teams battled harsh conditions of cold temperatures and strong winds. Regardless, four new school records were set and many personal records.
The men's competition began with Junior standout, Drew Atkins racing the 1,500m in a personal best time of 4:16.8, a time nearly 3 seconds faster than his previous personal record. Later in the meet, TJ Miller (So.) placed 9th in the high jump and also set a new school record in the 200m dash with a time of 23.63sec.
A pair of freshmen also had strong races for the Bearcats as Brent Crawford won his section of the 400m hurdles and placed 7th overall. His time of 1:04.0 is a new school record. Classmate, Chase McCauley began his outdoor campaign in the 5,000m where he ran a time of 16:51, nearly 50seconds faster than his previous personal record.
In the women's competition, Mackenzie Weyer (Fr.) set two school records by placing 9th in both the shot put and discus.Classmate, Tori King competed in the 100m hurdles and 100m dash. Sophomore, Courtney Naas raced in the 1,500m and finished with a time of 5:21, nealry missing a personal record.
"We got a little unlucky with the weather and wind, but we still got out there and competed hard.", said Coach Schulze. "Mac [Weyer] was throwing straight in to the wind in the shot put and the weather was brutal for those in the 100's (hurdles and dash) and 1,500. I thought we had some tremendous races, even when the times didn't really reflect it."
The teams will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Louisville, KY to compete in the Bellarmine Invitational.
