OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Brescia University men's volleyball team Picked up their sixth conference win at home against the Eagles of Midway University. The Bearcats improved their record to 9-12 overall and 6-9 in conference play.
The Bearcats jumped out early to a 7-1 lead over the Eagles thanks to MU attack errors and kills by the BU offense. A kill by Can Acis extended the BU lead to seven in the first set. The Bearcats began to pull away late in the set as Joaquin Palacios came in swinging in the final four points. Another attack error by the Eagles sealed the set one win with a final score of 25-16.
The Brescia offense cranked it up a notch in set two as they hit an impressive 41% from the floor to grab 13 kills. Back-to-back service aces by Mustafa Yildiz and then a kill by himself put the Bearcats up four. Palacios and Yildiz stayed busy in set two as BU walked away with the 25-13 set two win.
With the third and final set approaching, the Bearcats subbed in Connor Lilly and Siejohn Ouattara. It wasn't long before Ouattara found the ball and sunk it into the floor for his first kill of the match. The Eagles kept set three close, staying at a two-point deficit for majority of the game. Three consecutive attack errors by Midway confirmed the three-set victory for the Bearcats as they sweep the Eagles for the second time this season.
Joaquin Palacios led the way with 12 kills on 21 chances along with three blocks. Mustafa Yildiz followed with seven kills on 17 chances and two service aces. Stephen Schmidt and Miguel Veloso combined for 14 digs in the match.
