Two Bearcats PR at Fast Cats Classic
The Brescia men's cross country team hosted the Fast Cats Classic on October 9th at Yellow Creek Park, placing ninth as a team.
"As a whole, the team started off well, we just have to work on piecing the whole race together. I thought today was a good experience for the team and look forward to seeing how we compete in a couple weeks at the Midwest XC Challenge," said Head Coach Luke Stoffel.
The Bearcats were led by Christian Leach (FR, Monroe, Ohio), who completed the 8k course in 28:30 and narrowly missed a top 20 finish (22nd). Benjamin Brown (SO, Memphis, Mich.) was the next Bearcat to cross the line, finishing in 30:00.
Caleb Sandefur (FR, Hartford, Ky.), Tyler Walz (SO, Hawesville, Ky.), and Keitel McCoy (FR, Douglasville, Ga.) rounded out the top five for the Bearcats, running 32:28, 34:01, and 34:19, respectively. Draven Stewart (FR, Leitchfield, Ky.) finished the day for the Bearcats, completing the race in 35:51.
Sandefur and McCoy both knocked significant time off of their PR's (personal records), with Sandefur breaking his former PR by 1:07 and McCoy by 1:17.
"I was happy to see Caleb and Keitel run big PR's today. We have a young team and we'll continue to see more PR's, from those two as well as the rest of the team, as they continue to grow and adjust to the 8k," said Stoffel.
The men's cross country team will be back in action on October 24th when the team competes at Taylor University.
