Women's Tennis Defeats St. Catherine's
Brescia women's tennis defeated St. Catherine College 5-2 Friday at the Owensboro Tennis Complex.
It was the first victory of the season for the Bearcats. Brescia jumped out to early leads in four of the five singles matches. Play was halted briefly as the match was moved indoors due to rain. Dakota Durrett (SR/Paducah,KY), Naruemon Wiriyachon (SO/Dunkirk, MD) and Tarsila Duck (SR/Mogi das Cruzes, SP Brazil) quickly finished off their opponents to put Brescia up 3-0.
Emily Adkins (SR/Utica, KY) lost a hearbreaker at number 5 singles. Adkins claimed the first set 6-3, dropped the second 3-6 and lost the match tiebreak 10-6.
Duck and Durrett cruised at number 1 doubles, 8-1, to seal the victory.
Taylor Wathen (SO/Owensboro,KY) came up with some huge shots to help the number 2 doubles steal a come from behind win, 9-7.
The Bearcats face conference foes Carlow and IU East on the road in the next two days.
