Women's Tennis Falls 5-4 to Johnson University
The Bearcats fell to Johnson University 5-4 on Saturday, September 16th, despite spotting the Royals a 3-0 lead due to forfeited matches. Both teams started off the day with doubles matches, as Naruemon Wiriyachon and Divinity Price lost to Madi Buchanan and Kaitlin Faust 9-8 (2). Toni Keeling and Morgan Harmon got Brescia on the board with an 8-5 win over McKayla Todd and Danielle Keehner in number two doubles. Unfortunately, number three doubles had to be forfeited and was given to Johnson University.
With a 2-1 deficit from doubles and 5 and 6 singles being forfeited, the Bearcats faced a 4-1 hole going into the singles matches. Divinity Price and Naruemon Wiriyachon made quick work of their opponents, as Price won 6-3, 6-0 over Buchanan and Wiriyachon beat Faust 6-2, 6-1. With the top two singles players winning for Brescia, it came down to Keeling and Harmon. At number four singles, Keeling beat Annalise McDonald 6-3, 6-3. Harmon was outlasted by Keehner, 6-3, 6-2, in by far the longest match of the day. Neither player showed any sign of giving up in a match that nearly lasted 3 hours.
In matches that were completed, Brescia won 4 out of 6 on the day. Despite the 3-0 deficit before action even took place, the team showed great determination and came up just short of a victory.
